بدأت ملامح المنافسة تتشكل مبكرًا على واحدة من أكثر الجوائز السينمائية انتظارًا كل عام، وهي جائزة الأوسكار لأفضل فيلم دولي، إذ أعلنت عشرات الدول حول العالم رسميًا عن الأفلام التي تمثلها في الدورة الـ98 لحفل جوائز الأوسكار لعام 2026، في سباق يُتوقع أن يكون الأكثر تنوعًا وإثارة خلال الأعوام الأخيرة.
وتشهد قائمة هذا العام حضورًا لافتًا لأفلام من قارات مختلفة، تجمع بين القصص الإنسانية والاجتماعية والسياسية، في لوحة عالمية تبرز تنوع التجارب الفنية والثقافية. فقد رشحت فرنسا الفيلم الدرامي “The Taste of Things” الذي يُعيد تقديم فن الطبخ الفرنسي في قالب شاعري عن الحب والذاكرة. بينما اختارت إسبانيا فيلمها المنتظر “Society of the Snow” للمخرج خوان أنطونيو بايونا، والذي حقق ضجة نقدية كبيرة منذ عرضه الأول في مهرجان البندقية.
أما اليابان، فقد فاجأت الجميع باختيار فيلم الرسوم المتحركة “The Boy and the Heron” للمخرج هاياو ميازاكي، الذي يُعد عودته الكبرى بعد عقد من الغياب. من جهتها، قدمت كوريا الجنوبية الفيلم الغامض “Exhuma” الذي يجمع بين الرعب والتراث الشعبي في معالجة غير تقليدية.
وفي المنطقة العربية، أعلنت مصر عن ترشيح فيلم “بيت من ورق” للمخرج أحمد عبدالله السيد، في خطوة تعكس حضور السينما المصرية على الساحة العالمية، بينما اختارت المغرب فيلم “الحياة تناسبني أحيانًا” الذي تناول موضوعات الهوية والحرية في مجتمع تقليدي. كذلك قدمت فلسطين فيلم “وداعًا بيت لحم” الذي لاقى إشادات واسعة في مهرجان كان، لما يحمله من جرأة سياسية وإنسانية.
من أمريكا اللاتينية، جاءت الترشيحات قوية هذا العام مع أفلام مثل “Argentina, 1985” من الأرجنتين الذي يناقش العدالة بعد الحكم العسكري، وفيلم “Tótem” من المكسيك الذي تم اختياره للمرة الثانية في موسم الجوائز بعد فوزه في مهرجانات عدة. أما إيران، فقد دخلت المنافسة بفيلم “Terrestrial Verses” الذي يتناول الصراع بين الفرد والدولة بأسلوب واقعي مؤلم.
وتتوقع الأكاديمية أن تتلقى هذا العام أكثر من 90 ترشيحًا رسميًا من مختلف دول العالم، قبل أن تُعلن القائمة القصيرة في ديسمبر المقبل، يليها الإعلان النهائي عن الأفلام الخمسة المرشحة رسميًا في يناير 2026. ويُقام حفل توزيع جوائز الأوسكار في مارس المقبل على مسرح دولبي في لوس أنجلوس، وسط ترقب عالمي لمعرفة من سيحصد اللقب الذهبي.
وبينما تتنوع القصص والأساليب والإنتاجات، تبقى جائزة أفضل فيلم دولي نافذة حقيقية على العالم، تتيح للجمهور فرصة اكتشاف ثقافات وتجارب سينمائية جديدة تؤكد أن لغة الفن لا تعرف الحدود.

The race for one of cinema’s most anticipated honors — the Oscar for Best International Feature Film — has officially begun, as dozens of countries around the world have announced their official submissions for the 98th Academy Awards in 2026. This year’s lineup promises to be one of the most diverse and exciting in recent memory, showcasing a vivid panorama of global storytelling and artistic voices.
This season features a wide range of entries that span continents, cultures, and genres — from deeply personal dramas to socially charged narratives. France has selected “The Taste of Things”, a romantic culinary drama that celebrates French gastronomy through love and memory. Spain, meanwhile, chose “Society of the Snow”, directed by J.A. Bayona, a gripping survival story that has already drawn critical acclaim since its Venice premiere.
In a move that delighted animation fans, Japan nominated Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron”, marking the legendary filmmaker’s return after a decade-long hiatus. South Korea entered the race with “Exhuma”, a supernatural thriller rooted in folklore and tradition.
From the Arab world, Egypt is representing itself with “A House of Paper” by Ahmed Abdallah El Sayed — a poignant film that highlights Egypt’s continued cinematic influence on the global stage. Morocco submitted “Life Sometimes Fits Me”, a touching exploration of identity and freedom within a conservative society, while Palestine selected “Goodbye Bethlehem”, which earned praise at the Cannes Film Festival for its bold political and emotional themes.
In Latin America, the competition is equally fierce. Argentina submitted “Argentina, 1985”, a stirring courtroom drama about post-dictatorship justice, and Mexico entered “Tótem”, an award-winning festival favorite returning for another shot at Oscar glory. Meanwhile, Iran joined the lineup with “Terrestrial Verses”, a raw, realistic portrayal of individual struggle against state control.
The Academy is expected to receive more than 90 official submissions from around the globe before revealing the shortlist in December, followed by the announcement of the five official nominees in January 2026. The Oscar ceremony will take place in March at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where film lovers worldwide will be watching to see which story takes home the golden statue.
